Its official name is “to Ano Gavrio”. The seat of the municipality is Andros and belongs to the geographical region of Aegean Islands.

During the former administrative division of Greece (“Kapodistrias” project) and until 2010, Ano Gavrio belonged to Ano Gavriou Local District, the former municipality of YDROUSAS the prefecture of KYKLADON.
