Gkiona (Greek: η Γκιώνα) (Avdiron Local Community - AVDIRON Municipal Section), belongs to AVDIRON Municipality, XANTHIS Regional Unity located in Eastern Macedonia - Thrace region, according to the administrative division of Greece as altered by “Kallikratis” project.

Its official name is “i Gkiona”. The seat of the municipality is Genisea and belongs to the geographical region of Thrace.

During the former administrative division of Greece (“Kapodistrias” project) and until 2010, Gkiona belonged to Avdiron Local District, the former municipality of AVDIRON the prefecture of XANTHIS.
