Its official name is “i Oia”. The seat of the municipality is Thira and belongs to the geographical region of Aegean Islands.
During the former administrative division of Greece (“Kapodistrias” project) and until 2010, Oia belonged to Oias Local District, the former community of OIAS the prefecture of KYKLADON.
