Platania (Greek: η Πλατανιά) (Makrychoriou Local Community - OREINOU Municipal Section), belongs to NESTOU Municipality, KAVALAS Regional Unity located in Eastern Macedonia - Thrace region, according to the administrative division of Greece as altered by “Kallikratis” project.

Its official name is “i Platania”. The seat of the municipality is Chrysoupoli and belongs to the geographical region of Macedonia.

During the former administrative division of Greece (“Kapodistrias” project) and until 2010, Platania belonged to Makrychoriou Local District, the former municipality of OREINOU the prefecture of KAVALAS.
